School tasks are becoming a parent's nightmare. Why?
-
Some tasks are simply too difficult for the child to do and so parents end up doing them. They don't always have enough time to do it. Most teachers know that the parents are doing the assignments and still assess the task and give marks for it. What is the solution? Teachers should sit down and do all the research on the proposed assignment first. If they can't find the information, how will the children find it? They should give the children some resources, i.e. websites that will help them to do the assignment.
-
Not all children and parents have access to the Internet. Doing research on a cellphone is not a solution. Most of the information in the assignments come straight from the Internet because no-one has time to go to the public library or in most cases the library is not up to standard. Some schools don't have libraries any more. Magazines and newspapers don't always have the needed information for the period of time during which the assignment must be done. Magazines have also become extremely expensive. What is the solution? The school and teachers need to offer facilities, resources and time so that children can do research at school.
N.B. It is important to remember that children cannot be left alone to use the Internet. An adult must always be there to assist them.
